This week marks the first week of solid work on the game mechanics for Trial of the Valkyrie. Having never worked on a mobile game there were many trials the team had to overcome, mainly getting the touch input working so we could move our character around.

We had decided to split the tasks needed to get done around between group members. Eric would be working on getting the player mechanics working and completed, Brandan would be working on getting the enemy scripts working and completed and I would be working on getting as many of the art assets and menu screen completed. Eric would also be working on making some background music for the game as well as a background tile for the characters to travel on. Brandan will also be working on creating sound effects as well as creating the barricade obstacles that will damage the player if run into. I would be creating some vocal noises for the player character Hilde.

Now to discuss things that were completed during this development week. Eric was able to create the spear throwing mechanic for the player character. He created a border around the screen so that the spear would get destroyed when it would hit the boundary so as to not have a endlessly flying spear. We have gotten the spear to fly at a decent speed and now just need to change the instantiation time on the spears because currently they are far too slow for my liking. For how we want this game to play the two seconds between each spear spawning is far too long. After creating the spear throwing mechanic, Eric worked on making the character move. This took us a while to figure out. While we could get the movement working well on the computer getting it done so that it works on an Android device is a bit tougher. It took us much more longer then I was hoping for it to take us but I had planned for a situation like this to happen, that we wouldn't be able to get all the main mechanics working by the end of this week. I give us until the mid of next week to get the main mechanics done as the rest of the art assets shouldn't take that long for them to complete. However we do have the character moving which I am pleased with. Brandan was working on the enemy scripts however they are not fully completed, they do throw their own weapons however. We have some basic background music for the game and I had created the main character sprite as well as all the game buttons and the main menu screen. I only need to finish the rest of the title plate for the main menu. Next on my agenda is to create the light and heavy unit sprites, weapon and upgrade sprites, get the character animation working and then getting voice work completed and helping on the upgrade scripts.

We still have quite a bit to do however we will be meeting up every day this coming week to get this prototype completed and working. Below I'll include some of the art assets I had created.
