Ye Olde Virtual Reality Dev Blog #2

This week was mainly us working out and solidifying our ideas for this VR experience. We went into depth with our groups to see what each group needed and what assets we would need.

Our project leader, Hayden, told us to mainly focus on working on the documentation. In our Game Design document we went into more detail on all of our games, what the play spaces would all look like, what kind of audio and art assets will each game and area need, 3D model specifications, how the player will interact with each game and the space, how the team will be run and what kind of a timeline we have to get this project completed.

Being the head of the art department I was in charge of getting the art bible completed for the document as well as getting some of the Swords minigame section of the project document completed. Along with myself, Aeisha and Roman helped me in getting sections of the art bible completed, Roman working on the Darts section and Aeisha working on the Swords section while I worked on the Catapults and Audio sections.

We also ended up getting in contact with an Audio student, Dylan. Dylan said he'll help us out with the audio for the game, he mainly told us he does ambience and sound effects. Next week we'll have a meeting with him to discuss each of the sound effects we are looking for. He may possibly have someone else working with him to get the audio completed. We also had an Animation student wanting to work with us however he had to back out due to previous work commitments. It'll put a bit more work on the art team to get all of the visual assets created however I do believe that we will be able to get all of them done.

As for the documentation for this week, I mainly had to create concept art for how the Catapult minigame could look as well as getting some concepts for how the tavern could look, and how we could actually place the minigames into the HUB. Below are some of the images I did of the play spaces.

Later in the week Hayden got me to assign 3D models for everyone to complete, I had to think of different ways that everyone would be able to reach their learning outcome. Everyone needed a model with a rig and an animation. Everyone would have a week to get their model completed and after that only the art team would be working on creating the remaining models for the project. I tried to keep in mind everyones different abilities with 3D modelling so that people could get the outcome without having to create a humanoid model, which for some of the people would have been incredibly hard.

I got some people on making weapons with animated tassels or doors that will open and close, and window shutters that will open and close, or at least move. After the main and most needed models are done I'll get Aeisha and myself to texture them.
